My Iron Warriors Kill Team - The Lords of Skaduhapaamunden (Counts as Angels of Death)

I wanted an AoD Kill Team - I already have an old intercessor KT, White Templars, and while ok, they’re not really been my thing. I struggled with all sorts of ideas, SW, DW, chapters of my own making, etc, but none really turned me ON (I have to be IN LOVE with a project to really do it justice). So I sat down and wondered - what are one of the defining things, that differentiate them from other SM teams? For one, access to a guy with heavy bolter, in heavy armour. Also, a Grenade launcher guy. And dedicated assault troops. Especially the first thing, access to a heavy armoured guy, got me thinking… And suddenly two things came to mind:

1) It probably has to be a Chaos team to really push me into overdrive. I’ve been a Chaos fan since I was 11 (42 now), and I’ve already got DG, WB, and Noise Marines teams, so chaos it is. Which legion then? Which led me to…

2) I need something that’s not a heavy intercessor, but still looks heavy. I’ve always loved the concept of Obliterators. Loved it. And hated every single version of the miniatures GW has put out. From the 3rd ed. “sprue guys” with guns in their eyes (sigh) to the squatting forestpoopers that came next (and don’t even get me started on Mutilators…) to the newest version, that looks super cartoony to me, and like someone mashed some heavy weapons into a severely overweight marine, trying to fit into power armour leg warmers and thongs. Why, oh why, GW? Why do you keep messing it up? So I decided to take inspiration from the greatest (probably also the only one I like) artwork of an Obliterator, and tried to make my own - MY vision of what an Obliterator should look like. More tubes, more (Venom-style) flesh tendrils, and more awesome.

With an Obliterator in place as my heavy gunner, the choice was obvious; Iron Warriors. I love painting necrostripes, and mechanical stuff is cool in my book.
So without further ado, here’s the team in all it’s unpainted glory. They’re pretty much ready for paint, barring a few small clean ups and scrapings here and there, but I could use some opinions on what head I should use for the Obliterator - I can’t seem to decide.

"Come on, feel the noise..."

“I have shattered the craftworld of Lugganath with my song, little Aeldari… What do you imagine I can do to you?”

They’re finally done. After 4 years of (on-off) working on them, getting new ideas, making conversions, scrapping said conversions, searching the web for cool printable bits and not finding any, finally deciding to learn Blender (3d sculpting software) and making my own, and getting them painted over the last two months, my Noise Marine Kill Team. is. Finally. Done.

I’m really proud of them. They fought me every step of the way, but ever since reading the depictions of Noise Marines in the Fabius Bile trilogy, I wanted to make some - but I hate the 80’s guitar hero thing, and wanted to convey the utter horror, debasedness (is that a word?), and chilling creepiness of a group of 8 feet tall, genetically modified psychopaths, mutated beyond recognition, using sound as weapons, and caring ONLY for experiencing MORE - no matter the cost.

Like I said, the Kill Team really came together when I decided to do my own parts, and the Sonic weapons, heads and backpacks made them FEEL like the vision I had.

The colour scheme wasn’t easy to come up with as well, and I made 4-5 attempts, stripping them and starting again, until I decided on this. I wanted something that looked unlike any other traitor chapter, with purples, magentas and pinks, while not looking like something from My Little Pony - so I decided on a very desaturated purple/grey/ivory tone for the armour and some purple/magenta for the shoulders to warm up the colour scheme.

And yes, some of you will ask “why no glow/osl on the sonic weapons?” - believe me, I’ve tried. I love osl, and definitely wanted them to have it, but no matter what colour I tried (I even went as far as loading an image into PS, and using sliders to try every colour of the spectrum), it ended up overpowering the desaturated tones way to much, and ruining the feel - so, until I get another idea, they’ll stay like this.

For anyone wondering, they’ll be played as Nemesis Claw - it suddenly dawned on me, that almost everything about them is perfect for Emperors Children - sonic screams, mutilation of enemies, wearing skin as cloaks, etc. I’m gonna try them out at some of my painting groups KT weekend (along with DigitAllan) hangout this weekend, and really looking forward to it.

Welcome to the Church of Noise!

Hi guys!

At the moment I'm working on a Noise Marines Kill Team (counts as Warp Coven - yes, I DO think it works. ;) ), and I wanted to make some really cool Noise Marines. That, however, was not an easy task. I spent many evenings scouring the internet, and eventually giving up my search for cool 3rd party bits to make some. Everything I've found was either "boobs! Boobs everywhere!", missing the 40k aesthetic or just plain bad. I don't like the 80's guitar hero thing for Noise Marines at all. I want them to be freaky, twisted and really really scary.

I took a deep breath, sketched some things on paper, installed Blender (free 3d sculpting software) on my computer, and set to work trying to learn how to use the software, and making my own bits. It took 2-3 weeks of using most of my evenings on it (it is a STEEP learning curve), but I think I've managed getting some stuff done that I'm very happy with. I got them printed by a guy I found on FB, and it was SO cool to get physical copies of the stuff I'd done.
